26432 Extremely Hazardous Substances / HazMat Information Available to the Public The Emerald Coast Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) collects, maintains, and makes available to the public and first responders, information on extremely hazardous chemicals manufactured, transported and stored throughout facilities in Northwest Florida. The LEPCs were created by the Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA), under SARA Title III. The LEPCs develop and maintain a hazardous materials emergency plan for the region, facilitate training and exercise opportunities for first responders (public and private sector), and act a resource to the public regarding chemicals located in the community. Other resources include briefings on known chemicals in proximity to a community, facility and / or public place, as well as, training on sheltering and evacuating. The Emerald Coast LEPC meets quarterly to discuss new developments in the hazmat sphere including changes in legislation, new response training opportunities, assessment of the needs and capabilities in Northwest Florida and planning for potential incidents in the region.
